The space you leave in between your plants is an important measurement when it comes to gardening. It can be easy to underestimate how much space your plants will need once they begin growing. Space is necessary for the plants, but air circulation is also important. Plot out all of these considerations before putting that first seed in the ground.

Green Plant

The compost pile should include equal parts of dried material and green plant material. Green plant mulches include everything from fresh grass clippings, to unwanted vegetables, to recently pulled weeds. Dry materials, like sawdust, cut up wood pieces, cardboard, straw and shredded paper are good for your compost pile. Avoid meat, ashes, charcoal, plants with diseases and manure from carnivores.

A good way to plant seeds is in containers. Plant them three times as deep as their overall size. However, you should be aware that certain seeds should not be covered at all because they are required to be in the sunlight. Typical examples are petunias and ageratum. If you are unsure about the specific needs of your seeds, you should consult your local garden center or conduct further research online. Important things to look for include water requirements, ideal soil type, and recommended sunlight exposure.

Keep slugs out of your organic garden naturally, using a beer trap. Use a glass jar buried in the soil so the rim of the jar is at ground level. After you have placed the jar in the soil, fill with beer to approximately one inch of the top. Beer is especially attractive to slugs; they will lured to it and trapped.
