You have many options available to enable you to grow a vivacious and colorful organic garden of your very own. You just need to learn them and use them.

If little ones live in your home, consider including everbearing strawberries in the garden plot. Your children will enjoy being able to pick strawberries and will be ready to help you if they can get something sweet to eat.

The ideal temperature to set your thermostat for indoor plants is between 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit during the daylight hours. The plants need this temperature in order to effectively grow. If you wish to keep your house cooler than that, you may want to use a heat lamp just for the plants.

Organic Plants

When you are growing organic plants within the home or an enclosed area, considering how much light the plants will receive must be emphasized. The amount of light available can determine which type of organic plants you should grow. For example, if your living area does not provide much natural sunlight, you could grow those plants that only need low to medium amounts of natural light to thrive. If you want to grow plants that need a lot of light, consider using artificial lighting.

Have your tools for gardening nearby in order to maximize your efficiency with gardening. Carry a large bucket with you or wear pants with a lot of pockets. Have gloves, shears, a trowel and anything else you need handy for quick use.

When your plants begin to sprout, they can survive in somewhat cooler temperatures. As your plants grow, you will want to put a little distance between them and heat. You should also remove plastic films that you had on your containers to keep the humidity and warmth out. Keep an eye on your seeds in order to know when you should do this.

Flower Beds

Add three inches of mulch to your flower beds. By doing this, you can lock in moisture, discourage weed growth, and nourish your plants. Your flower beds should also look beautiful all year long.

Add used coffee grounds to your garden soil. Coffee grounds have nitrogen that plants will utilize. Nitrogen is often the most important nutrient when it comes to plants thriving, and a solid source of nitrogen, like coffee grounds, urea, or compost, can boost growth speed and increase height.

When it is harvest time, use a laundry basket. This will be like a strainer for all your produce. The produce can be rinsed off as it sits in the laundry basket, and extra water will drain out through the sides.

Compost Pile

Use equal parts of green and dried plant material in your compost pile. Grass clippings, vegetable and fruit leftovers, and grass clippings are all examples of green plant material. Dry materials, like sawdust, cut up wood pieces, cardboard, straw and shredded paper are good for your compost pile. You should not use things like meat scraps, charcoal, blighted plants or the manure of meat-eating animals in your compost.

A rule of thumb followed by many planters is to bury the seeds in soil to a depth of around three times the diameter of the actual seed. However, some seeds do not need to be covered, they need the sunlight. Some examples are petunias and ageratum. If you are not sure whether your seeds need to be exposed to sunlight, resources are usually provided with the seeds or can be found online.

If slugs are an issue in your garden, a beer trap can make them go away. Use a glass jar buried in the soil so the rim of the jar is at ground level. Fill the jar with beer within one inch of the top. Beer is especially attractive to slugs; they will lured to it and trapped.

Your watering schedule should flow perfectly with the seasons, yet be adjustable according to climate. The amount of water a plant needs depends on the soil type, time of day and the water’s quality. In some cases, you can’t water because of climate issues. You can’t water the leave of your plants during humid, warm weather–it’ll promote the growth of leaf fungus. The important thing is to make sure the plant’s roots receive sufficient water.

While any person can make a garden, the people who know what they are doing will get the best results. Put this advice to work for you.
