Organic Gardening Can Be Easier Than You Think

Organic gardening can really be an intelligent move for having a healthier diet. However, organic gardening does require a commitment. Perhaps you are hesitating about where to begin.

Organic gardening is a safe hobby to share with your children. Growing a garden is a great way to teach your children about nature while allowing you to have time to bond with them.

Water containing some aspirin helps your plants fight illness. You will need 2 gallons of water and one and one half aspirin mixed together for a wonderful add-on to your plants. Spray your plants with the water if they have a disease. Apply this solution to your plants every few weeks.

If you’re really serious about environmentally-friendly gardening practices, refrain from developing some of your land and use it as an animal habitat. This is a great natural way to allow the insects and animals found in nature to assist with the growth of your garden.

The ideal temperature to set your thermostat for indoor plants is between 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit during the daylight hours. The temperature needs to remain warm so they may grow. If your home isn’t that warm during in winter, try a heat lamp to use on your organic plants instead.

Create a space perfect for any perennial garden with this easy method. With a garden spade, slice under the dirt then flip it over. Next, spread out wood chips several inches deep. Allow the newly turned soil to sit for two weeks, then plant your perennials.

When you are working in your garden, you will want to have all of your tools in a convenient location. It’s frustrating to search for a tool for a half hour. Before you start work in the garden, make sure you have the necessary tools, and always remember to put them away when you are finished. You can use a tool belt, or you may want to wear pants with extra pockets.

Organize the chores for your organic garden so they do not pile up. Even if you’re to busy to focus on your garden’s needs each day, you could do small things that could prevent you from piling up work when you wish to work on your garden. You can pull a few weeds when you take your dog outside.

When planting seeds in containers, plant the seed roughly three times deeper than the seed’s size. However, you should be aware that certain seeds should not be covered at all because they are required to be in the sunlight. These seeds include petunias and ageratum. Always be sure to check online or with the company you’re purchasing the seeds from as to their sunlight needs.

Creating a trap with beer can help reduce the number of slugs in your garden. Use a glass jar buried in the soil so the rim of the jar is at ground level. Keep the jar filled with beer, up to about an inch from the top. Slugs will be attracted to the beer and fall into the jar.

Treated Wood

Create raised beds with stone, brick or untreated wood. If you choose to use wood to construct your bed, choose a species that is naturally resistant to rot and avoid treated wood entirely. Several species of trees yield suitable wood. Locust, cypress, and cedar are among the more commonly used rot resitent woods. It is particular important that you don’t use treated wood for vegetable beds, as the chemicals and toxins on the wood could leach into the soil and be absorbed by food plants. If you have built a bed with treated lumber already, use a barrier such as plastic to line the bed.

As should be obvious by now, organic gardening requires a bit of forethought and planning before implementation. Persistence is also a necessary ingredient for success. By using the above tips, you will have a marvelous organic garden in no time.
