Organic Gardening Tips From Very Experienced People

The main reason people decide to go organic when gardening is that they think commercial chemicals, including pesticides and fertilizers, may degrade soil quality, harm the environment and cause long-term damage to their personal health. Also, organic gardening is quite cheap on the whole. Read on for some advice about how to work in your organic garden.

Keep the temperature in your home between 65 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit, if you are keeping or growing any kind of plant in your house. Young plants need a temperature within that specific range to grow. If you think it would not be comfortable to keep your residence that warm in the winter, consider purchasing a heat lamp to use on the plants.

Have your gardening tools near you to minimize the time spent searching for them. Carry your tools in a bucket, or keep them in the pockets of a pair of rugged pants. Keep common tools such as your gloves or your pruning shears within reach so that you can quickly and easily maintain your garden whenever you need to.

After your seeds begin to sprout, it is not as important to keep them warm. As your baby plants grow, you can move them from their heat source. If you used plastic wrap to insulate your seedlings, you should now remove it. Watch the seeds so you can know when you do this.

Pine Needles

Pine needles should not be overlooked as a great source for mulch. Some plants are more acidic, and prefer soil that contains higher acidic levels. If you are growing these types of plants, simply gather up fallen pine needles for use in your garden. Cover the surface of the ground with a two-inch layer of the pine needles; as the needles break down, they will release acid into the soil and nourish your plants.

Coffee grounds are good for your soil. Plants can use the nitrogenous nutrients found in coffee grounds. Generally, nitrogen is the limiting nutrient with any plant and having a good nitrogen source either by coffee grounds, compost, or even diluted urea, will make your plants bloom faster and grow taller.

It is possible to control weeds with natural methods. You should layer some newspaper to get weeds under control. Weeds can’t grow without sunlight. They will suffocate and die if you cover them with newpapers. Newspapers easily break down over a period of time, and eventually become a portion of the compost. If you want it to look better, just add a layer or two of much over top of the newspapers.

If you follow these advice on organic gardening, you will be able to have a productive, toxic-free, healthy garden in the future. Planting a natural garden also encourages wildlife to enjoy your garden, and this even benefits the plants growing within.
