Dried plant material, however, can include items such as cardboard, sawdust and shredded paper. Charcoal, meat, ashes or other diseased plants should not be included in a compost pile.

Killing weeds the natural way? You need to have many layers of newspapers in order to provide proper weed control. Without exposure to the sun, weeds cannot thrive. By placing newspaper over them, they will not get light and suffocate. As an added benefit, the newspapers will decompose over time, becoming organic compost. Add a layer of mulch on top to make it look more attractive!
